Seniors, prepping yourself for your pictures can be a struggle! But don't let it be!!
-CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE-
You will want to eliminate as much stress as possible on the day of your pictures. You don't want to be thinking about where or what you need to do after your session, or feeling rushed that day. Be sure to ask for the day off of work and also if mom or dad plan to come with you also ask for them to take the day off. Let your coach(s) know you won't be at practice that day and clear your schedule with any obligations. You never know what can happen on the day of your session and what delays can come up while we are out shooting.
Part of preparing yourself for your senior session is thinking how you want your outfits, makeup, hair, and nails to look. You have two options - set up an appointment with a professional, or do it yourself. Simple right!
-OUTFITS-
When choosing your outfits, you wouldn't believe it but it is one on the most important things when taking your senior photos!
-SET ASIDE TIME TO SHOP-
Whether you're digging through your closet, headed to your friends house to barrow clothes, or out to go buy new ones- be sure to set aside one day or one weekend to plan your perfect outfits. This will take time and you want to make sure you try everything on! Use the style guide below to help you. Don't wait until the last minute to start picking out your outfits! Trust me on this one!! Put your shopping day on your calendar right now!!
-THE NEUTRALS-
When planning your outfits, you can never go wrong with the neutrals. Start with these colors; black, white, grey, or even denim. When choosing the whites - the brighter the white, the more contrast it will give your skin. Then just add color from there!
-THE BOLD & THE WARM-
When wearing neon or bland colors on camera, your skin tones look very washed out and unflattering. Warm and rich tones will photograph more better on camera and will compliment your hair and skin colors.
-THE PATTERNS & THE TEXTURES-
When choosing patterns think of BOLD, Strips, gingham, etc. Adding texture to your outfits will make the biggest difference and prevents from the image looking dull.
-THE ACCESSORIES-
When choosing your outfits, don't forget to choose your accessories. Long necklaces, fun earrings, scarves, hats, bright shoes and other add-ons can make an outfit really stand out. Not only do these give your outfits more interest but they also help with posing too, they will give your photos more variety and interest.
Here are some tips to helping you pick the best outfits!!

1. Avoid neon colors!
2. Stay away from fabrics that are prone to wrinkling or clinging to you in unflattering ways.
3. Incorporate a variety of colors that are still consistent with your everyday style.
4. Choose flattering fits that will complement your natural body shape from all angles.
5. Accessorize with hats, necklaces, etc. but don't go overboard.
6. Never be afraid on incorporating patterns, as long as the pattern isn't too overbearing.
7. BE YOURSELF AND COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OUTFIT CHOICES SO YOU CAN FOCUS ON THE SHOOT, NOT FIXING YOUR CLOTHES, THROUGHOUT THE SESSION!
8. And most importantly don't be afraid to ask me for help when choosing your outfits!!

-THE PROFESSIONALS-
When having a professional do your hair and make up it will make a drastic difference in the quality of your photos and senior picture experience. You're already making a big investment in your senior pictures so why not make it great?! Amiright! When choosing what kind of look you are wanting from a "barely there" look to more of a drastic contoured look, or even something in between, we will send you to the best of the best.
-When we send out a questionnaire, we will be asking if you're going pro or not and what type of look you are going for!!
-MAKEUP-
When it comes to makeup and letting a professional do it has some pros to it.
Professionals have experience in makeup application in photography
They will know how makeup will appear in the photos
They have high quality products in your shade and every shade imaginable!
They know how to contour and choose colors that highlight your best features
And most importantly, they’ll have you feeling confident, beautiful, and ready to start your session!!
If both hair and makeup aren't in your budget, I suggest getting your makeup done professionally!! And if neither are in your budget, then below are some tips to help you!!
1. Apply eye and lip makeup slightly darker than normal. Cameras don’t pick up the contrast & definition our eyes see in person.
2. Avoid makeup with SPF & mineral makeup. While great for everyday use, they create an unflattering shine.
3. Don’t go overboard with layers of heavy makeup. It’s hard to photograph cakey makeup.
4. Set foundation with translucent powder that reduces shine. Shine is hard to Photoshop.
5. You might not normally wear lipstick, but I recommend it for your session, even if it’s a shade close to your natural lip color.
6. Mascara is a must!! Even if you don't usually wear mascara, trust me you will thank me later!! Clean not clumpy. At least 1 coat, 2 if you normally wear mascara.
7. Pastel eye shadows will look washed out – go for a medium or dark, rich tone. Browns and golds are good!
8. Avoid heavy black eyeliner, which makes your eyes look smaller. Go with gray or brown and blend well if you’re wearing eyeliner.
9. Avoid any sparkles and shimmers. Matte makeup will photograph better!
-LESS STRESS-
Preparing for your senior session is stressful itself. Trying to do your hair and makeup by yourself can make things even harder. Professional camera equipment is designed to pick up every little detail in an image so hiring a professional makeup artist is the best way to go.
